AFC West Pre-Season Status Update

Las Vegas Raiders

2021 Record: 10-7-0 (3-3-0)

The Raiders focused their off-season on acquiring offensive weapons to surround quarterback Derek Carr.

Las Vegas drafted two offensive linemen and brought home a shiny new toy for Carr in the form of star wide receiver, Davante Adams. Carr will need Adams now more than ever as he faces a division full of talent at the quarterback position. On the defensive side, Chandler Jones makes his way to Las Vegas as a bona fide pass rusher to compliment Crosby on the other side.

The Raiders’ success will depend on whether they can protect Carr, but success is relative in a division as competitive as the AFC West.

Notable offseason additions

Davante Adams, WR

Chandler Jones, DE

Anthony Averett, CB

Duron Harmon, S

Josh McDaniels, HC

Los Angeles Chargers

2021 Record: 9-8-0 (3-3-0)

For the Chargers to be the class of the division, they know they must improve the defense.  In a universe captivated by offense and putting up points, the Chargers have brought in some power on the other side.

Joey Bosa will now be complemented by Khalil Mack, while Pro Bowl Corner J.C. Jackson provides an anchor on the outside, and Austin Johnson and Sebastian Joseph-Day will hold down the interior. The defensive stability should give young quarterback Justin Herbert the support he needs to take this team on a significant postseason journey.

Notable offseason additions

Khalil Mack, LB

J.C. Jackson, CB

Sebastian Joseph-Day, DL

Gerald Everett, TE

Denver Broncos

2021 Record: 7-10-0 (1-5-0)

Denver was the beneficiary of what might be the biggest offseason signing and added its long sought-after franchise quarterback, Russell Wilson. To boot, the Broncos didn’t have to give up much to make it happen.

The Denver defense adds two serious pass rushers in Randy Gregory and Nik Bonnito to bring credibility to the defensive side.

A team that has been a quarterback away for a while now looks to capitalize on its talent acquisition and become a real contender.

Notable offseason additions

Russell Wilson, QB

Randy Gregory, OLB

Kansas City Chiefs

2021 Record: 12-5-0 (5-1-0)

Expectations these days for the Chiefs are Super Bowl or bust.

Kansas City made a tough decision coming off a conference championship loss, choosing to part ways with Tyreek Hill and opting for a bevy of draft picks instead. The decision bodes well for the future health of the franchise, but the Chiefs will likely have their work cut out for them to fill the void.

KC brings in a talented draft haul on both the defensive and offensive side, and will set their sights, once again, on the league’s ultimate prize.
