FanDuel got its start in a backyard in Austin, Texas in 2009. By 2015, the company was worth over $1 billion. FanDuel started as a daily fantasy sports site (DFS). They received funding from businesses and venture capitalists to get the company going. Their first event was held in 2010, which started with a fantasy football championship that awarded the winner $40,000. FanDuel continued to grow through the 2010’s as one of the leaders of the DFS industry. In 2015, FanDuel and their main competitor, DraftKings, got into trouble for deceptive advertising and offering unregulated gambling to their customers. A couple of years later the two companies attempted to merge but were shut down by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), to avoid monopolizing the industry
Sports gambling in the US took off in May of 2018, when the Supreme Court ruled that the professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act was unconstitutional, legalizing online sports betting in America. A couple of months later, an Irish betting company, Paddy Power Betfair, decided to purchase FanDuel. FanDuel launched their first sportsbook in 2019 at Meadowlands Racetrack in New Jersey. They have since expanded across the country, as more states begin to legalize sports betting.
Since its inception, FanDuel has moved from a DFS site to a sports betting site. FanDuel has managed to grow into one of the most well known online sportsbooks in the country.
FanDuel Sportsbook Interface
FanDuel’s app and its website are rather similar. The app launched in August of 2019, and the website launched shortly after the Supreme Court ruling in May of 2018. They both offer promotion deals and sports tabs near the top of the site. The site is easy to navigate to find upcoming games and to play around with player props or futures bets.
Accessibility: The FanDuel app can be downloaded by IOS or Android devices. If you look up FanDuel Sportsbook on your desktop it will be the first link at the top of the page.
Appearance: The app and the website have the exact same color scheme. It’s a mix of light and dark blue, but offers its bets on a white background, making them easy to read. The only big difference between the app and the site is where the sports tabs are located. On the app, they’re located on top, while on the website they’re located on the left side. They’re both easy to identify; they’re just in different locations.
Layout: On the website, the betslip is immediately within view, located on the right side. On the app you have to click on the bets you would like to place before your betslip is shown. Additionally, the website has three tabs towards the top of the page to navigate the site. They’re listed as Home, My Bets, and Promotions. The app has five navigational tabs, but they’re listed at the bottom. They are as follows; Home, All Sports, My Bets, Refer, and Account.
Speed: The app and the website are both fast. As soon as you click on a bet, it’s there in your bet slip. Waiting around isn’t an issue when accessing FanDuel’s sportsbook.
Cash Out: You can cash out on the “Active Bets” tab on your betslip. If you are allowed to cash out then you will see a green cash out button that you can click on and type the amount you wish to withdraw.
FanDuel Deposit/Withdrawal Process
To deposit money into your account you must log into FanDuel. You will then find a Deposit button. Click on that, and it will then give you a list of payment methods for you to choose. Upon entering your payment details, you will list the amount you wish to deposit. You can then finish your transaction.
FanDuel offers a list of ways you can withdraw your money. Among them are PayPal, wire transfer, online banking, FanDuel prepaid card, check, or Venmo. If you want to withdraw your money using any of these options you will first have to have deposited money that way. However, you can still withdraw via check, even if you did not deposit that way.
Each of these methods vary on the time it takes to cash money out. Venmo and Paypal can take about 48 hours, while a check can take 2-3 weeks before it is mailed to you.
The minimum amount you need in your account to withdraw is $25, although some states allow only $10. The maximum amount you can withdraw is $10,000. In cases where you must withdraw more than $10,000, you may request a wire transfer.
Note* To cash out on a bet, you must be in the state where you placed it.
