Fantasy Football: Top 3 Rookies to Draft

by | Aug 19, 2022 | Football

It’s almost football time – we’ve been waiting all summer for Sunday Night. Week 1 of the NFL Preseason is in the books. We are less than a month away from opening night in the NFL that will see the defending Super Bowl Champion Los Angeles Rams take on the Super Bowl favorite (6/1) Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Football drafts are kicking off all around the country. Whether you drafted already, or your draft is upcoming, here are rookies you’ll want to keep your eye on. Rookies are crucial for a solid Fantasy Football Strategy. This year’s draft class was especially full of Wide Receiver talent, so we must highlight the top 3 rookie receivers to watch out for in Fantasy Football.

Treylon Burks

Odds to win Offensive Rookie of the Year: 9/1

This kid’s game is insane. As a Philadelphia Eagles’ fan, we were hoping to see the Birds pair Burks with Devonta Smith. Disclaimer: We’ll still take Jordan Davis any day of the week.

Burks posted an impressive season last year for the Razorbacks hauling in 66 passes and over 1,100 yards received. He topped this off with 11 touchdowns. Treylon Burks was mostly responsible for the Razorbacks going 9-4 last season and finishing over .500 for the first time since the 2016 season. Arkansas plays in the ever-dominant SEC and those numbers from a team not named Alabama or Georgia is beyond impressive.

Burks is also in a great situation this season after he went 18th overall to the Titans. Tennessee is a team that just lost their star wideout in AJ Brown to none other than the Philadelphia Eagles. Although critics are not sold on Ryan Tannehill, pairing Burks with Robert Woods will pay dividends for the young receiver.

Expect this kid to fully flourish this year and maybe even take over as WR1 by season’s end. Burks will be a solid WR3 / Flex option, and we should all be excited to see this kid play.

George Pickens

Odds to win Offensive Rookie of the Year: 10/1

Everyone has already seen the videos of George Pickens shoving NFL Defensive Backs to the ground. Looks like he’s showing no signs of a struggle coming off his 2021 ACL tear. Pickens is a freak of nature according to some of his Steelers’ teammates. Pickens comes off an injury plagued college career but as a freshman, he caught 49 passes for over 727 yards. As a young kid, he proved he can dominate. His sophomore and junior seasons he combined for only 12 games.

Pickens doesn’t have to be the man for the Steelers as he is playing alongside Chase Claypool and Diontae Johnson. Pickens will start out as WR3, but he could make the jump to WR2 by year’s end. Pittsburgh has been impressed by what they’ve seen in camp from Pickens. Fellow wideout Diontae Johnson has publicly called Pickens a freak of nature and is excited to play alongside the Rookie.

Considering Pickens’ size and strength, he will thrive in the NFL and is a great Fantasy WR3 option to keep in your back pocket.

Chris Olave

Odds to win Offensive Rookie of the Year: 8/1

Let’s double down on this one: Chris Olave as a rookie to snag in Fantasy and top bet for Offensive Rookie of the Year. In keeping with the theme, Olave is not only a stud WR, but was also drafted into a great situation. No, Jameis Winston isn’t elite, but he sure can toss the pigskin. Olave will be lining up alongside not only Michael Thomas, but Jarvis Landry as well. It will be interesting to see which WR will be double covered all season.

Olave is coming off a Senior season at Ohio State that saw him post 65 receptions, 936 yards and 13 Touchdowns for the Buckeyes. Not to mention, he also runs a 4.26 40. This kid is fast and has proved he can score touchdowns. Say what you want about Jameis Winston, but he’s going to put the ball in the endzone. Now he has legitimate weapons at wide receiver.

Chris Olave will thrive in this offense. Playing alongside two stars, he won’t be a proverbial WR1 or WR2 this year but will be a reliable WR3/Flex. Expect Olave to be a safety blanket for Winston and give you a 650–700-yard season as a Rookie WR.

Drafting any of these rookies when they fall to later rounds should be part of your Fantasy Football Strategy.
