10 Fantasy Football Sleepers/Breakouts (August 2022)

by | Aug 7, 2022 | Football

Every year in fantasy football, a few breakout players come out of nowhere to be top contributors to their teams. These breakout stars are fondly known as fantasy football sleepers. To get a jump on your competition, it’s important to identify these players early and add them to your team’s roster.

Here are ten potential sleepers/breakouts for the 2022 season:

10. Kadarius Toney (WR), New York Giants

Toney was a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft and has shown flashes of his potential with the Giants. He’s got great speed and quickness and can make plays in the open field.

Toney didn’t have a ton of production during his rookie season due to injuries. However, Toney is expected to see an increased role in the offense in 2022. He’s also likely to see more playing time in the slot, which is a prime position for fantasy production.

If your league scoring is PPR, then it will be even more crucial to grab Toney in the higher rounds.

9. Russell Gage (WR), Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tom Brady has a history of turning relatively unknown receivers into fantasy football stars (ask Wes Welker and Danny Amendola).

If you’re looking for a late-round sleeper in your fantasy football draft, keep an eye on Russell Gage. He could end up being a steal!

8. Raheem Mostert (RB), Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins running back averaged 5.7 yards per carry when he was with the 49ers, and he’s sure to see plenty of opportunities in Miami. Playing alongside Chase Edmunds, it’s just a matter of if Mostert can stay healthy.

Keep an eye on Mostert in the later rounds, he’ll drop and be available as a late round value add.

7. Marcus Mariota (QB), Atlanta Falcons

If Mariota can find a way to fend off rookie Desmond Ridder for the starting spot, he could be the ultimate fantasy football sleeper in 2022. His dual-threat nature will always make him an attractive late-round pick in your fantasy draft.

If you have a super-flex league, he’s a name to remember and potentially stash away.

6. Marlon Mack (RB), Houston Texans

Marlon Mack is a solid sleeper pick for fantasy football this season. The Texans have signed him to compete for the starting job, and he has shown promise in the past. He tore his Achilles during Week 1 of the 2020 season and has been set back since. If he can come back healthy, he could significantly contribute to the Texan’s offense.

Fantasy football GMs would be wise to keep an eye on Mack. He will be a key fantasy football sleeper on many winning teams this season.

5. Kyle Rudolph (TE), Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Brady has shown a willingness to target his tight ends throughout his career (just ask Gronk). There’s no reason to think that he won’t make use of Rudolph’s skills this season. If the veteran tight end has any juice left in the tank, he’ll be a steal later in your draft.

4. Zach Wilson (QB), New York Jets

Jets QB Zach Wilson is a player to watch out for in the 2022 fantasy football season. After an up and down rookie campaign, Wilson is poised to take his game to the next level. His arm strength is elite; he can make all the throws and create plays with his legs.

After the Jets added more offensive weapons over the offseason, Wilson could be a breakout star in 2022. Just keep in mind that with any Jets QB, there’s always a chance for disaster. But the reward far outweighs the risk with Wilson.

3. Rhamondre Stevenson (RB), New England Patriots

Rhamondre Stevenson entered the NFL in 2021 as a fourth-round pick out of Oklahoma. He had a solid performance in his rookie campaign rushing for 606 yards in limited action. If he can build on his strong performance from last year, he could be in for a breakout season.

Stevenson is a powerful runner who can break tackles and pick up extra yardage after contact. We’ll see him used in a similar role to LeGarrette Blount back in 2016 where he led all running backs in touchdowns. Stevenson is a player to keep an eye on heading into your fantasy drafts.

2. Kyle Pitts (TE), Atlanta Falcons

Kyle Pitts is a name that fantasy football enthusiasts will want to remember. The 22-year-old tight end was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He has the potential to have a breakout performance in his sophomore year.

Pitts is a big target at 6’6″ and has the speed to create separation from defenders. He can also make contested catches and is a red zone threat. If the Falcons can get some stability at QB, we can see Pitts being a valuable fantasy asset at TE.

1. Trevor Lawrence (QB), Jacksonville Jaguars

Trevor Lawrence is one of the most highly touted quarterbacks in NFL history. He had a rough rookie season due to a lack of weapons and incompetent coaching. He now has a Super Bowl-winning coach at his side and some added talent on offense.

Lawrence is an excellent player to stash away that could pay dividends by season’s end.

Who do you think will have a breakout fantasy performance in 2022? The NFL is always full of surprises, so it’s hard to say for sure. But we hope this article has helped give you some players to watch out for as the season and your draft approaches.
