NFL Week 4 Preview, Odds, and Wicked Wagers

by | Oct 1, 2022 | Football

The first three weeks of professional football have been unreal. The NFL has shown us true parody this year, with more teams being good than downright bad. Week 4 is the week where the real contenders should start to pull away, but the question remains who those teams are. There is only one undefeated NFL team left after Thursday night, the Philadelphia Eagles. Let’s dive into our full NFL Week 4 picks, odds, and previews.

Minnesota Vikings (-165) vs New Orleans Saints (+140)Sunday, 9:30 AM EST

Game Preview

The first game Sunday will be played in London between the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints. Coming off back-to-back losses, the Saints will be looking to get back into the win column. The challenge for New Orleans has been under center; quarterback Jameis Winston has 5 INTs in the last two weeks. Adding to that struggle is that Winston has a sore back and is listed as doubtful for week 4. This may leave command of the offense to Andy Dalton, the 12-year veteran who had 9 INTs last season.

New Orleans Saints Notable Injuries: Taysom Hill (Q), Jameis Winston (D), Michael Thomas (O)

On the other side of the field the Vikings come into week 4 off a late comeback win. They narrowly avoided being the victim of two losses in a row as well. Quarterback Kirk Cousins finished last week with 260 yards and 2 touchdowns but started the game slow. On the ground if Dalvin Cook stays healthy, he has run the ball well, picking up just under 100 yards last week on only 17 carries.

Minnesota Vikings Notable Injuries: Za’Darius Smith (Q), Andrew Booth Jr. (Q)

Fantasy Football Tips

The big fantasy story so far for Minnesota has been the struggle for receiver Justin Jefferson. He has just 9 receptions and 62 yards over the last two weeks combined. This is after a week 1 performance that say 9 catches for 184 yards and 2 TDs. Look for him to bounce back this week but he will likely be covered by cornerback Marshon Lattimore. Vikings receiver K.J. Osborn should be one to watch after his big game last week. If he thrives, likely Jefferson hasn’t and vice versa.

Both running backs in this game, Alvin Kamara, and Dalvin Cook, are considered automatic starters in fantasy.

Vikings vs Saints NFL Week 4 Picks

The Saints surprised fans with a week 1 victory over Atlanta but have since looked like the team we expected. Touting an unknown at quarterback and no Michael Thomas, the Vikings defense will hold the Saints off. The Vikings will do enough to allow Cousins to lead them to a win, regardless of how stellar he plays.

Final Score: Vikings 27 – Saints 13

Wicked Wager – Vikings -3 (-110)

Wicked Player Prop – Justin Jefferson under 84.5 yards (-117)

Seattle Seahawks (+150) at Detroit Lions (-178)Sunday, 1:00 PM EST

Game Preview

Both teams coming off close losses last week that saw them to fall to 1-2. This week the Seahawks will be in Detroit to take on the Lions. Seattle is starting to look like a team that can have an offense without Russell Wilson. Last week quarterback Geno Smith had a 99.1 passer rating after throwing for 325 yards and 2 touchdowns. Wide receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett put up better stats with the Geno they got last week. Metcalf having had 64 yards and a touchdown while Lockett had 76 yards on 9 catches. They will face a Detroit defense that was able to shut down Justin Jefferson last week but that was all.

Seattle Seahawks Notable Injuries: Shelby Harris (Q), Marquise Goodwin (Q), Justin Coleman (D)

The Lions would like to forget those holes the pass defense had which allowed for a comeback from Minnesota late in the game. The key for Detroit will be a better offensive performance, QB Jared Goff had 277 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT (good for a 79.0 passer rating) after having great protection from his line. On the ground the Lions rushed for 139 yards split between Jamaal Williams and D’Andre Swif, but Swift may not be available in Week 4. Look for Williams to post numbers like Atlanta’s Cordarrelle Patterson had in week 3: 141 yards and a TD on 17 carries.

Detroit Lions Notable Injuries: Amon Ra St. Brown (O), D’Andre Swift (O), DJ Chark (Q), Josh Reynolds (Q)

Fantasy Football Tips

This week look to grab Jamaal Williams if he is available or start him if already owned. Williams is now the premiere back, and already found the end zone twice last week when he wasn’t. The Lions are going to be limited at wide receiver, but whoever does start will have a big game.

Seattle’s wide receivers Metcalf and Lockett are both must start. Keep an eye on quarterback Geno Smith for future starts but sit him this week.

Seahawks at Lions NFL Week 4 Picks

In a battle of Geno Smith vs. Jared Goff, Goff is still the pick to lead his team to victory. Detroit will be able to limit Seattle’s offense enough to allow the offense to put up enough points for the win. Don’t expect Seattle to be able to pull off a comeback like Minnesota did.

Final Score: Detroit 23 – Seattle 14

New York Jets (+158) at Pittsburgh Steelers (-190)Sunday, 1:00 PM EST

Game Preview

Week 4 will finally see quarterback Zach Wilson make his 1st career start and it will be in Pittsburgh. The time has come for change at quarterback after another poor performance from Joe Flacco last week against Cincinnati. Flacco threw for 285 yards but also 2 INTs and the Jets never found the end zone. Wilson will have a good slate of receivers to throw to including Elijah Moore, Corey Davis, Garrett Wilson and even Breece Hall out of the backfield.

New York Jets Notable Injuries: George Fant (IR), Quincy Williams (O)

For Pittsburgh the quarterback woes have been just as bad, but they will stick with Mitch Trubisky. In last week’s loss to Cleveland, Trubisky was just 20 for 32 with 205 yards. He was clearly out of sync with his every one of his receivers. In three games he has only amassed 569 yards and 2 total touchdowns. Pittsburgh’s defense hasn’t been the same since T.J. Watt went down in week 1 against Cincinnati. In week 3 the defense allowed Jacoby Brissett to throw for 220 yards and 2 touchdowns, not a winning recipe.

Pittsburgh Steelers Notable Injuries: Minkah Fitzpatrick (Q)

Fantasy Football Tips

Both teams have must start wide receivers, Diontae Johnson, and Chase Claypool on the Steelers side. However, with the struggles of Trubisky they are not the best starts in Week 4. Najee Harris is the only must start on the team right now. Look for him to pick up more offensive slack if he gets the ball more (only 15 carries in Week 3).

Jets kicker Greg Zuerlein is a good start after going 4 for 4 last week, including two from 50+ yards. Zach Wilson is an unknown this week after missing so much time so be cautious with their receivers. Breece Hall and Michael Carter remain the best options for Jets players in Fantasy Football.

Jets at Steelers NFL Week 4 Picks

Trubisky should be getting close to seeing the bench for Pittsburgh and it is a surprise it has not happened yet. Watch for rookie backup Kenny Pickett to get the nod after Week 4 if not in the second half against the Jets. Jets QB Zach Wilson will be ready to pick apart the same defense Brissett did last week and improve the Jets to 2-2 on the season.

Final Score: New York 23 – Pittsburgh 17

Wicked Wagers – Jets ML (+158)

Wicked Player Props – Breece Hall Total Receiving Yards Over 17.5 (-119)

Chicago Bears (+130) at New York Giants (-155) – Sunday, 1:00 PM EST

Game Preview

Chicago heads East to play the Giants at MetLife stadium. The Chicago Bears are a surprising 2-1 this season, with their only loss inside the division against the Packers. The Bears have been winning games despite putting up very few points on the board. The secret? Their defensive play. Chicago is top 10 in total defense so far this year, and they’ll continue that play this week

We’re back to that old adage: defense wins championships. The Bears aren’t good enough to win a championship this year, but they’re good enough to win this game.

Chicago Bears Notable Injuries: Robert Quinn (Q), David Montgomery (O), Matthew Adams (D)

The New York Giants are home for the second week in a row, after losing to the Cowboys on MNF. Similarly, to the Bears, New York has also won their games this year by pulling it out in close games. The major difference is that the Giants haven’t excelled in any aspect of their games this year. The Giants saving grace this year has been a massive resurgence from Saquon Barkley. If Barkley continues to play well, they should pull out more wins.

The Giants will have to go to the ground early and often in this one, as they’ll have limited receivers.

New York Giants Notable Injuries: Kadarius Toney (O), Wan’Dale Robinson (O), Nick McCloud (O), Leonard Williams (O)

Fantasy Football Tips

For the Bears, the two must starts this week are Khalil Herbert and their defense. In our Week 4 Waiver Wire Target article, we said to go and get Herbert – now start him in your flex spot. Montgomery isn’t going to play, so you could start him even higher.

On the Giants side, unless something changes drastically, the only move here this year is Saquon Barkley. However, he is a must start every week.

Bears at Giants NFL Week 4 Picks

The Giants are extremely banged up at the receiver position, and Golladay has proven he can’t catch the football anymore.

Final Score: Chicago 20 – New York 13

Wicked Wager – Full Game Under 39.5 (-110)

Wicked Player Prop – Khalil Herbert Anytime Touchdown Scorer (-107)

Tennessee Titans (+160) at Indianapolis Colts (-182) – Sunday, 1:00 PM EST

Game Preview

The Titans head to Indianapolis for an AFC South showdown with both teams holding 1-2 records. The Titans had high expectations going into this season. They’ve been juggernauts in the AFC the last several years behind Derrick Henry on the ground and Mike Vrabel’s coaching. However, in 2022 they just haven’t been able to get it going, especially offensively.

Tennessee Titans Notable Injuries: Treylon Burks (P), Bud Dupree (P), Austin Hooper (P)

Indianapolis had equal hype around them, if not more, in the preseason. Returning an offense that scored often last year behind Jonathan Taylor, and a highly touted defense, the playoffs were the goal. Their offseason acquisition of quarterback Matt Ryan hasn’t panned out. He looks like he has less in the tank than even critics expected. If the Colts want to stay in the W column, they need to go back to pounding the rock with Taylor and playing shut down defense.

Indianapolis Colts Notable Injuries: Julian Blackmon (O), Shaquille Leonard (Q)

Fantasy Football Information

The Titans are a team that you should stay away from starting many of their players. Besides Derrick Henry being a lock and a must start, the rest could go either way.

Indianapolis has a couple solid must starts in Michael Pittman and Jonathan Taylor. Neither player has performed to their ceiling yet this year, but they will. Don’t miss the train when they start to go off.

Titans at Colts NFL Week 4 Picks

The Colts are a good team contrary to what we’ve seen so far this year. On the other side, the Titans feel like a team that can’t pass the ball and can’t play defense. This will be a tight game with neither team playing to their ceiling, and because it’s in the division. The Colts manage to come out on top and cover the spread.

Final Score: Indianapolis 24 – Tennessee 20

Wicked Wager – Colts -3.5 (-110)

Wicked Player Prop – Michael Pittman Jr Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+117)

Los Angeles Chargers (-230) at Houston Texans (+200) – Sunday, 1:00 PM EST

Game Preview

Los Angeles heads to Houston looking for redemption, coming off a bad loss in week 3. The Chargers need to be careful with Justin Herbert or their season could derail quickly. After getting injured in week 1, Herbert has continued to play but not well. Every moment he’s out there could be a Tua moment in the making.

Los Angeles Chargers Notable Injuries: Keenan Allen (O), J.C. Jackson (U), Justin Herbert (U)

The Texans had low expectations coming into the season, and frankly, they’ve played well above them. They won’t make a run at the playoffs, but they are playing competitive games against better teams. Rookie running back Dameon Pierce has settled in and had a hell of a game in week 3.

Houston Texans Notable Injuries: Brevin Jordan (O), Austin Deculus (O), Pharoah Brown (Q)

Fantasy Football Information

The must starts for the Chargers are two: Austin Ekeler and Mike Williams. These two will continue to see an uptick while Allen sits out. Herbert is a risky play because if he does play then he will be doing so with a lingering injury.

The Texans have two Fantasy musts and that’s Dameon Pierce, the bright spot of this team. The other is Brandin Cooks, the veteran All Pro wide receiver who continues to make plays every game.

Chargers at Texans NFL Week 4 Picks

Los Angeles is banged up and they are going into Houston, but they are still the better team. If Herbert doesn’t play or comes out mid-game, then this prediction is irrelevant. However, as it currently stands, Los Angeles comes out on top.

Final Score: Los Angeles 27 – Houston 20

Wicked Wagers – Full Game Over 45 (-110)

Wicked Player Prop – Dameon Pierce Total Rushing Yards Over 62.5 (-114)

Jacksonville Jaguars (+235) @ Philadelphia Eagles (-275) – Sunday, 1:00 PM EST

Game Preview

The Jaguars stomped on the Chargers in Week 3, winning 38-10. The game may have marked the true arrival of Trevor Lawrence. The Jaguars defense forced two turnovers on Sunday and have only given up 10 points in their last 2 games. Jacksonville has already equaled their win total from a year ago, but will continue to be tested. They’ll head to Philadelphia with the hopes of knocking off the undefeated Eagles.

Jacksonville Jaguars Notable Injuries: Shaquil Griffin (Q)

The Eagles stand at 3-0 after trouncing the Commanders in Washington. The connection of Jalen Hurts and Devonta Smith is beginning to look legit. The defense has been able to force turnovers as well, forcing 5 through their first 3 games. Philly fans have a lot to be excited about.

Philadelphia Eagles Notable Injuries: Dallas Goedert (Q) Darius Slay (Q)

Fantasy Football Tips

Jalen Hurts is turning into a must start. As is AJ Brown and Devonta Smith. Philly running back Myles Sanders is a good guy to have plugged into your lineup as well. There’s also reason to start the Philly defense these days. On the Jags side, if Trevor Lawrence is yet to be picked up in your league you may want to give him a shot. As for elsewhere on this Jags team, Christian Kirk and James Robinson have each produced and could be good starts this Sunday.

Jaguars at Eagles NFL Week 4 Picks

The Eagles will hang on, but it will be a lot closer than people think. Jalen Hurts and Trevor Lawrence will go head to head in what will turn into a showdown of two young quarterbacks. Lawrence will thrive in front of the hostile environment but it ultimately won’t be enough.

Final Score: Philadelphia 33 – Jacksonville 30

Wicked Wagers – Jaguars +6.5 (-110) / o44.5 (-112)

Wicked Player Prop – James Robinson Total Receiving Yards Over 13.5 (-115)

Buffalo Bills (-165) @ Baltimore Ravens (+145) – Sunday, 1:00 PM EST

Game Preview

The Bills are coming off a heart wrenching defeat at the hands of the Dolphins. Buffalo had people saying the u word after the first two weeks of the season, but they were brought back down to earth on Sunday. Josh Allen had to throw 63 passes against Miami. The Bills have to be looking for a more balanced approach moving forward, but that may not start this Sunday as the Ravens have allowed the most passing yards in the league through 3 weeks.

Buffalo Bills Notable Injuries: Jordan Poyer (Q), Ed Oliver (Q), Dawson Knox (Q) Gabe Davis (Q)

Lamar Jackson has looked phenomenal this season after turning down a contract extension over the off-season he didn’t think was enough. The Ravens offense leads the league in points per game and their defense is tied for the league lead in takeaways. The defense has had trouble limiting the big plays this season, so Josh Allen is likely to present problems this week.

Baltimore Ravens Notable Injuries: JK Dobbins (Q)

Fantasy Football Tips

Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson are each must starts. Stefon Diggs is as well. Look for Ravens running back JK Dobbins to get more carries against the Bills after making his return from injury this past Sunday. You could put Dobbins in your lineup as a flex option.

Bills at Ravens NFL Week 4 Picks

The defenses are going to step up. Each quarterback will struggle and turn the ball over, but will find a groove in the second half. It will be the Bills that come away victorious, sending the Ravens home 2-2.

Final Score: Buffalo 24 – Baltimore 20

Wicked Wagers – Bills ML (-165) / u50 (-110)

Wicked Player Prop – Dawson Knox Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+225)

Arizona Cardinals (+100) @ Carolina Panthers (-113) – Sunday, 4:05 PM EST

Game Preview

The Panthers are coming off their first win of the season. They will have a legitimate chance to move to .500 as they welcome the Cardinals into town. Baker Mayfield has yet to look like the player the Browns had 2 years ago. The Cardinals defense has gotten picked apart by quarterbacks this year, so Mayfield will have a chance to turn his fortunes around.

Carolina Panthers Notable Injuries: Christian McCaffrey (Q), Laviska Shenault Jr. (Q), Xavier Woods (Q)

The Cardinals will be slight underdogs in this one. Kyler Murray has shown some flashes this year, but has had to do it all by himself due to a lackluster supporting cast. Running back James Connor hasn’t been able to get it going this year. Connor is averaging 3 yards a carry through 3 games.

Arizona Cardinals Notable Injuries: JJ Watt (Q), James Connor (Q), AJ Green (O)

Fantasy Football Tips

If Christian McCaffrey is a go, he’s the only guy you can start in this one and feel happy about it. Kyler Murray is a questionable start even if you’re having quarterback issues. Marquise Brown could be a good flex option, as he’s coming off a big game against the Rams.

Cardinals at Panthers NFL Week 4 Picks

Each team will be trying to limit mistakes, which the Panthers will do a better job of. Carolina will take the lead in the first half and will hang on to it the entire afternoon to move to .500.

Final Score: Panthers 26 – Cardinals 17

Wicked Wager – Panthers -1 (-110)

Wicked Player Prop – Baker Mayfield Total Passing Yards Over 204.5 (-115)

Denver Broncos (+120) @ Las Vegas Raiders (-142) – Sunday, 4:25 PM EST

Game Preview

The Broncos haven’t been what people thought they would be on the offensive side of the ball. Russell Wilson hasn’t looked good with his new team and first year head coach Nathaniel Hackett recently had to hire an assistant to help him ‘manage the game.’ The Broncos will have another chance to figure things out this Sunday against the Raiders.

Denver Broncos Notable Injuries: DJ Jones (Q), Randy Gregory (Q), Melvin Gordon (Q)

The Raiders are 0-3 after coming into the season with a lot of hype. Many expected them to compete in the stacked AFC West, but now it doesn’t seem like they will. After a massive Week 1, Devante Adams hasn’t been able to produce much. The Raiders will need that to change sooner rather than later.

Las Vegas Raiders Notable Injuries: Forster Moreau (Q), Nate Hobbs (Q), Hunter Renfrow (Q)

Fantasy Football Tips

Keep Russell Wilson and Derek Carr out of your lineup in Week 4. Wilson should remain a reserve until he proves to fantasy owners that he can produce in his new uniform. Keep Devante Adams in your lineup despite his struggles the past couple of weeks.

Broncos at Raiders NFL Week 4 Picks

The Broncos offense will look marginally better in this game. Meanwhile, the Raiders appear to be becoming a disaster. Derek Carr will throw 3 picks, including one that is returned for 6. The Broncos will get a much needed win, while the Raiders will move to 0-4.

Final Score: Broncos 24 – Raiders 13

Wicked Wagers – Broncos ML (+125) / u45.5 (-110)

Wicked Player Prop – KJ Hambler Total Receiving Yards Over 14.5 (-113)

Kansas City Chiefs (+104) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-121) – Sunday, 8:20 PM EST

Game Preview

The Chiefs head south to post hurricane Tampa Bay. There was a lot of talk this week about whether this game would get moved to a neutral site. This could affect the mindset of the players, not to mention what their families went through. We hope all the players and their families are safe.

Onto football. Excluding the week 1 domination of the Cardinals, the Chiefs have played very close games to this point. They’re coming off a tough loss at the hands of the hapless Colts and will come out firing Sunday night. If they’re going to beat this Bucs team, then they’ll need to put up points early and often.

Kansas City Chiefs Notable Injuries: Michael Danna (O), Harrison Butker (O), Marquez Valdes-Scantling

The Buccaneers have major health issues this season and haven’t been able to score as much because of that. They’ve had three gritty, low scoring wins through the first three weeks. However, Mike Evans returns today, and he’ll be ready to go.

They key to this game for the Bucs will be their defense. If they can stop the Chiefs from scoring, then they will win this game easily. It sounds simple but this is a Chiefs team that can still put-up 40+ points, even without Tyreek Hill.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Notable Injuries: Julio Jones (Q), Chris Godwin (Q), Breshad Perriman (D)

Fantasy Football Information

On the Chiefs side, you’ve got to start Clyde Edwards-Helaire and all pro quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

For the Bucs, Brady and Mike Evans are a must start duo in all leagues. Leonard Fournette has had an up and down season but also is a top choice in both standard and PPR leagues.

Chiefs at Buccaneers Prediction

This game will come down to the Bucs defense against the Chiefs offense. The Bucs win this battle and the game as well by a field goal late in the 4th quarter.

Final Score: Tampa Bay 24 – Kansas City 20

Wicked Wagers – Tampa Bay ML (-121)

Wicked Player Prop – Mike Evans Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+110)
