NFL Futures and Odds by Division

by | Aug 31, 2022 | Football

It’s officially less than two weeks until the NFL regular season kicks off. The time is now to get in bets for team and player futures that will pay off down the line. There are several tough divisions this year: the AFC West, NFC West, and AFC East, just to name a few. Below is a full breakdown of NFL futures and odds by division.

Let’s look at each division to see where the most talented teams are, and which team is the best bet.

AFC East:

The top team in this division is the Buffalo Bills. The Bills enter the season as one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl, not just the AFC East. Don’t be surprised if Bills Quarterback, Josh Allen, finds himself in MVP discussions. The time is now for the Bills to succeed.

The team with the second-best odds to win the division, is the newly improved Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins were able to trade for Tyreek Hill over the offseason bolstering their offensive weapons. However, they still don’t have the kind of talent at the quarterback position that Buffalo has. The Dolphins will find themselves in a battle for second place with the Patriots (+500). The two could end up fighting for a playoff spot this year. The Jets (+2800) have the longest odds to win the East. It would take a miracle for them to take home the divisional crown. If you’re a lifelong Jets fan, throw in $25 at these odds – could pay dividends if an upset occurs.

AFC North:

This division is headlined by the Bengals and Ravens. The Bengals won the division last year, partly thanks to Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson’s late season ankle injury. The Ravens edge out the Bengals for the best odds to win the division this year. Both teams have talent, and they could end up with the same record at the end of the year. I like the Bengals in the head-to-head matchup though, so I’m taking Cincinnati as the best bet here.

When it comes to NFL futures and odds, stay away from the Browns (+380) to win the division. They could very well end up without Deshaun Watson for the entire season. Not worth the risk! The Steelers (+1000) are a longshot here. I don’t like them to win the division, but I think their odds are a bit off.

If you’re looking for a longshot bet, Pittsburgh is an intriguing one.

AFC South:

The Colts (-130) come into the season with the best odds to win the division in the AFC south. The Titans (+175) follow them. There’s no question that this division is going to come down to one of these two teams.

Matt Ryan will be the Colts new quarterback this year. He will have talent around him and a solid offensive line, but we’ve yet to see him under center for the Colts. Meanwhile, the Titans will once again be led by Ryan Tannehill. The human beast, Derrick Henry, is set to be in the backfield for him again. We know this duo can win the division. The odds aren’t going to give you much bang for your buck if you bet on Matt Ryan’s team.

Smart money is with Tennessee here.

The Jags and Texans won’t be very competitive this season. The Jags will be hoping they can improve upon last year’s disastrous season, and they will win a few more games in 2022. The Texans will be taking a step back this year. Don’t take either of these teams as longshot bets.

AFC West:

This division is the most talented in football. All four teams are playoff hopefuls, which means there’s going to be several “AFC West showdowns” year. The Chiefs (+175) are still the favorites. The Chiefs have won six straight division titles, and don’t plan on stopping there. The up-and-coming Chargers (+220) will be looking to knock them off their throne. Justin Herbert has proven himself as an elite quarterback in his first two seasons in Los Angeles. Unfortunately for these two teams, the talent doesn’t stop there.

The Denver Broncos (+260) went out and made the biggest move of the off-season. They acquired Super Bowl champion quarterback, Russell Wilson. The Broncos have had issues at this position for a while, but Wilson will bring an end to that. The Raiders (+650) also got a lot better over the off-season. Quarterback Derek Carr will finally have a WR1, thanks to the trade the team made for Devante Adams.

The best bet in this division is the Chargers. I see them knocking off the Chiefs for the top spot this year. The Raiders would be a good longshot bet too, even as the fourth best team in the division.

NFC East:

The Cowboys and Eagles are the teams most likely to win this division. The Cowboys hosted a home playoff game last season, only to falter in that game to the Niners. The frustration is real in Dallas, but the potential is still there. They have a stacked offense and a defense that knows how to turn the ball over. Dak Prescott is more trustworthy than Jalen Hurts, which is why the Cowboys are the best bet in the East.

The Commanders (+500) will have a new guy under center this year. Carson Wentz is set to be the guy taking snaps in Washington. We’ve seen what Wentz is capable of in Philadelphia, but it remains to be seen if he can return to that form.

Washington could be a good longshot bet, but I ultimately see them taking the third spot in this division. Stay away from the Giants (+800). They’re not going to be very good this year.

But if you’re a lifelong Giants fan, why not give this team a shot?

NFC North:

The Packers remain the big favorites to win this division. Aaron Rodgers is coming off back-to-back MVP seasons and will be back for his age 38 campaign. The trade of star wide receiver Devante Adams means that they will need different guys to step up on offense.

The only other team that Vegas is giving a remote shot at winning this division is the Vikings. The Vikings haven’t won the NFC North since 2017 and will be against the odds once again (+260). This won’t be the year that Aaron Rodgers falls off, which is why I’m taking the Packers to win the division for the fourth straight year.

The Lions and Bears remain afterthoughts this year. We’ll see improvements from the Lions after their 3-13 season, but it won’t be enough to make noise in this division. It feels like the Bears may be taking a step back after their 6-11 season.

NFC South:

Thanks to Tom Brady’s return from his brief retirement, the Buccaneers are the biggest favorites in the NFL to win their division (-250). When it comes to NFL futures and odds this division is a lock. However, the Panthers may be the most interesting team in this division. The acquisition of Baker Mayfield means he’s likely to be the guy taking snaps in Carolina this year. They’ll do much better than what Vegas thinks (6.5 wins). Still, stay away from the longshot bet here (+900), as they won’t be hanging with the Buccaneers in the division.

The Saints were playing well last season before quarterback Jameis Winston tore his ACL. Winston aims to be back for week one of the season, but still may have to miss some time. Once he’s ready to go, he’s going to be the guy for the Saints. If healthy the entire year, Winston can take this team to the playoffs. Because of the uncertainty with his injury, stay away from taking the Saints to win the division (+310).

NFC West:

This division is another competitive one for NFL futures and odds. Three playoff teams came out of the NFC West last season, including the Super Bowl champs. The Rams will be looking to defend that trophy this year. The Niners look like the number one threat to steal the division from them. 2021 first round pick, Trey Lance, is set to take over as the team’s quarterback. Unlike the Niners, the Rams will have proven talent at this position. Matthew Stafford had a phenomenal first season in Los Angeles, where he was surrounded by star talent. Because their odds are so close, Rams (+130) and Niners (+150), it’s a no-brainer to go with the Rams.

The Cardinals will have (+400) odds to win the division. The team made the playoffs last season, only to get trounced by the Rams. This is a bet to stay away from, especially after the drama surrounding Kyler Murray’s contract details. It feels like there’s quarterback-head coach tension in Arizona right now. If you’re betting on the Cardinals to win the division, you’re also betting on the internal issues to be resolved.
