Per usual, this August Sunday afternoon is going to be filled with baseball and the matchups don’t disappoint either. We’re set for a stellar pitching matchup in Queens, and the day caps off with the most historic rivalry in the game.
Everybody’s going to be putting their money on those two games. However, the lower profile games are what’s producing the betting draw for this Sunday afternoon.
We’re going with the Padres to complete the sweep of the lowly Nats, and to do so emphatically. We also like the Mariners to take care of the Rangers in Arlington. Staying in an AL West Ballpark, our upset pick comes from Anaheim where Minnesota will win big over the Angels.
12PM EST San Diego Padres (-245) @ Washington Nationals (+205)
Starting Pitchers: Blake Snell (SD) vs Paolo Espino (WAS)
Thanks to the trade these two teams made with each other twelve days ago, this matchup is even more lopsided than it would have originally been. The Padres lineup features the star power of Juan Soto and Manny Machado. On the other side, the National’s most prized hitter is sporting a sub .250 batting average. Additionally, the Padres are fighting for playoff position, while the Nationals don’t have anything to play for.
The pitching matchup gives us even more reason to put money on the Pads. Former Cy Young winner, Blake Snell, isn’t having his best of seasons, but he’s been efficient as of late. In his last four starts, the southpaw has only given up three runs. Paolo Espino will be getting the nod for the Nationals. Espino is 0-4, with a 4.04 ERA on the year.
The Padres will be coming off a rare loss to this Nationals team. Expect the Padres to bounce back by taking this one by more than just one run.
Wicked Wager- Padres Run Line (-155)
2:35PM EST Seattle Mariners (-120) @ Texas Rangers (+100)
Starting Pitchers: Logan Gilbert (SEA) vs Martin Perez (TEX)
This matchup features a pair of talented pitchers that got roughed up in their most recent starts. To be fair, they were going up against the high-powered offenses of the Yankees and the Astros respectively. These guys are each going to bounce back big time in today’s matchup. Rangers’ pitcher, Martin Perez, has been phenomenal this year. In his eleventh season, the Rangers pitcher made his first all-star team. Mariners’ pitcher, Logan Gilbert, has been particularly efficient when taking the mound vs the Rangers this year. In three starts, he has only given up two runs to this Rangers lineup.
Unlike the Rangers, who have been disappointing this season after making a splash in free agency, this Seattle team has been able to put it together. Rookie Julio Rodriguez continues to steal the show. The outfielder is hitting .273 with eighteen home runs this year. The Mariners lineup has also been provided with a huge boost from the recent return of Mitch Haniger. Haniger has gotten a hit in each of his seven games since returning from injury.
Due to this stellar pitching matchup, we’re not expecting a lot of runs to be scored in this one. It could very well be tight, but the smart money remains with the Mariners.
Wicked Wagers- Mariners ML (-120) / Total Runs u8.0 (-120)
4:07PM EST Minnesota Twins (-130) @ Los Angeles Angels (+110)
Starting Pitchers: Chris Archer (MIN) vs Tucker Davidson (LAA)
Boy, have the Angels been bad this year. Even when the team seems like they might be decent, they go on to lose fourteen in a row. So, what a surprise it was when they came from behind to put away the Twins last night.
The Angels now sit fourteen games under .500, and when Shoehi Ohtani’s not pitching they’re never a good bet. Tucker Davidson will be the guy going for the Angels in this one. For the year, Davidson is 1-3, with a 7.91 ERA. His counterpart, Chris Archer, is 2-5, with a 4.02 ERA.
With Mike Trout still injured, the Angels offense has been rather abysmal. If Ohtani’s not producing, offense is hard to come by for this team. The Twins on the other hand, have had a lineup that’s produced all season. Luis Arreez is the league leader in batting average. Byron Buxton’s average may not be there, but he leads his team with 27 homers. Carlos Correa is another guy that can do damage, as we saw last night. Advantage Twins.
This is a game where the Twins could get after it early and keep a big lead throughout the game. Minnesota will be out for vengeance after giving away the game last night.
The Angels should also be able to tack on a few runs off Archer. Let’s take the Twins to put up a big number in this one and win handily.
Wicked Wagers – Twins Run Line (+125) / Total Runs o9.0 (+100)
